UP THE ANTE: ROCK A BOW TIE

Monday, 15 April 2019

Sure, bow ties have connotations of immaculate black tie style – the kind usually reserved for weddings, red carpets and high roller tables - but bow tie style has evolved into the every day so let’s have some fun.

Styling a bow tie with a tux is a no brainer but have you considered it with a suit or a blazer/chino combo? You should. The modern bow tie ads an instant punch of personality and is a viable style alternative to your usual tie.

The key is colour and pattern. Solid bow ties are a must for the repertoire but their more charismatic, patterned cousins are where it’s at.

Use a floral or striped bow tie to add punch to a classic navy suit and crisp white shirt. Or if you want to dip your toes into the water first, simply take your suit colour and match it to a similar coloured bow tie.

STYLE TIP

A bow tie’s smaller size means that you can get away with more. Play a patterned bow tie against a printed shirt (striped or checked works) and reap the style rewards.
