Your winter Black Tie wedding guide.
Unless you’re a member of an exclusive gentlemen’s club, or a professional assassin, you probably won’t need black tie every weekend. But winter wedding season is just around the corner. Fancy, gilded invitations are probably zooming towards your letter box as we speak, and every guy needs at least one good tuxedo hanging in the wardrobe. Consider us your one-stop black tie emporium.
Here’s the good news: there’s a lot more to modern ‘black tie’ than velvet tux jackets. Winter black tie trends have relaxed a bit over the years, and there’s way more scope to play with fabrics, patterns and textures. The trick is being comfortable in any formal situation. Dressing like you – but a more sophisticated you.

Leave it at the tone
The biggest misconception with black tie is that it has to be, well, black. We’re shaking up the look this year with ‘tonal dressing’ – matching your jacket and pants for a more fresh, modern vibe. We call this one ‘Navy Everything’. Just grab a blue velvet tuxedo jacket and pair with a white shirt, navy blue pants, navy accessories and dark brown loafers. Very wedding-friendly.

Red carpet ready
There’s nothing wrong with old-school, red carpet glamour, if that’s more your speed. Black tie isn’t something you wear every day – it’s not meant to be bland and boring. And we can’t think of anything less boring than our new double-breasted black velvet tuxedo with a satin peak lapel. This one comes with six buttons, and it’s cut slim, for that tapered silhouette.

Add a little texture
Velvet isn’t for everybody, and that’s always been one of the problems with traditional black tie. So this year we’re experimenting. We’re launching two new jackets for the winter wedding season: our first luxe, knitted tuxedo in grey yarn (just throw on slim black jeans, for a more modern approach), and a red woven Jacquard tuxedo (pair this one with a black shirt, for that premium look).

Feel the burn out
Burn out fabrics are the other big trend this year – but think subtle. Look for leopard spots, florals and paisleys in key seasonal colours, and stick with one print per outfit. If your jacket has an understated floral design, match it with a simple white shirt and skinny tie. And for that finishing touch? Check out the new black tie accessory range, with silk pocket squares, bowties, belts and high-shine leather shoes.

Casual? Smart.
In the right hands, black tie can be a state of mind. You don’t necessarily need a tuxedo, a bowtie, or even a suit jacket. In fact, we’ve just released two new casual silhouettes: a four-pocket utility jacket and a classic bomber, both picked out in luxe fabrics. Obviously you need to style these guys appropriately. Try a pair of indigo jeans and a black shirt to finish the look.
